Tips

  • Because you have to wait for each component to smelt, this will take more time than most challenges. You will need a source of food and water.
  • You will need a total of 7 Melted Iron Ore (1 for the Metal Blade needed for the Metal Spear, 6 total for the Metal Armor - each mold produces 2 Metal Armor Casts, and you need 12 to make the four pieces of armor).
  • Iron Ore can be mined from veins located in caves (2 ore per vein) or smelted from Empty Cans (1 each).
  • Focus on acquiring the raw materials before setting up your base of operations.
    • Start by mining the iron in your starting cave. Head northwest to the Bamboo Camp and the nearby cave to find Empty Cans and some iron ore veins, collecting coconuts at the camp to craft coconut bidons. You can also harvest turtles for meat and shells for cooking later.
    • Head south to the Dock. You may be able to find some food and Empty Cans, but most importantly get Charcoal from the campfire. You will need this later.
    • Head further south to the Drug Facility to gather empty cans and the Pot. Get more Charcoal and Campfire Ash.
    • You should have enough raw materials at this point. If you need more, you can check nearby caves for iron, or visit Plane Crash Cave for more empty cans and iron.
  • Once you have the materials, settle down in a suitable location. You will need easy access to water, a source of meat and lots of trees.
  • Set up a shelter with a small fire. Use your Pot or Turtle Shell to make meat soups to keep your energy up.
  • Mud will have to be collected and used to learn blueprints for working with iron and obtaining metal. You need Campfire Ash to make mud bricks, which you can obtain from the campfires you found earlier or harvest from Charcoal.
  • You will likely want to make several Mud Forges to smelt multiple components. However, you need a lot of Charcoal to keep these running. You will likely want to fire up several Mud Furnaces to supply Charcoal (each burn provides 15 Charcoal, but takes several hours). Most of your time in this challenge will be in chopping wood for your furnaces to ensure you have enough charcoal.
    • You should prioritise setting up your furnaces before building your forges. You don't want to run out of charcoal and have to re-ignite forges frequently.
    • You can top up forges by inserting charcoal into them while they are still burning.
  • Make sure you have plenty of bandages handy. Depending on your location, you may be attacked by natives or jaguars.
  • Keep organized: Remove any items from the backpack to avoid carrying too much weight.
