The Fishing Rod is a tool which was added in update V.0.3.0 to Green Hell.

Basic info

The fishing rod is a tool for catching fish. Catching fish with a fishing rod uses the Fishing skill.

In order to catch fish, a Bone Hook must be attached to the fishing rod while it is held. The hook may then be baited to attract different kind of fish. The bobber will be pulled underwater and the tip of the rod will jerk when a fish is on the line. The fishing rod must be pulled quickly once a fish bites in order to secure the catch.

Maggots and Larva are common bait that can be used on the fishing hook, though small fish and certain mushrooms are also suitable bait. Different types of fish prefer different types of baits. See the Fishing page for how to fish and what bait attracts different kinds of fish.

Alternatives

A Fishing Rod Trap can be placed near water with visible fish to capture fish without requiring manual casting. A carefully placed fishing trap can provide more than one fish a day without bait.

Spear Fishing is an alternative to fishing that does not require bait and the extra weight of a rod, especially since most players carry a spear. However, unlike fishing it requires careful positioning and the physical reflexes to strike visible fish. A fishing rod allows the player to reach fish that congregate farther from the shore with more certainty of a bite.
