The Obsidian Spear is a tool and melee weapon which was added in update V.0.1 to Green Hell.

Basic Info

Has a great attackspeed but mediocre range. It is capable of killing a native in about 3 hits.

The different spears feature different attack reach in Green Hell. Amongst the early spear types (Weak Spear, Stone Spear, Bone Spear and Obsidian Spear), the Obsidian Spear has the shortest reach, making it a challenging hunting tool or weapon in certain situations despite it's decent damage stats.

For example, facing a South American Rattlesnake or Brazilian Wandering Spider, the Obsidian Spear struggles to allow for safe hits without coming into the attack range of the animal.

As a hunting tool, the melee attacks of the Obsidian Spear may only hit and impale animals such as fish, Red Crabs, Cane Toads, et cetera when almost standing on top of the animal, making the Obsidian Spear somewhat unfavorable especially for prey which flees when approached by the player and compared to spears with longer reach.
