Riverbanks & Ponds |
The Poison Dart Frog is a species of passive animal in Green Hell.
Basic Info[]
The poison dart frog comes in a variety of colors and can be found along the banks of rivers and ponds. They are harmless if left alone. However, if the player attempts to pick up the dart frog while it is alive, they will receive a whopping eight stacks of venom poisoning (or as little as 5 stacks) along with the usual one stack of fever. If not treated quickly, this will result in the player's death even from full health.
A living poison dart frog can be used by the player in the frog stretcher to craft poison darts. The player will need to make sure they are highly prepared to deal with the consequence from picking up a live frog while prepping to craft darts.
If dead, poison dart frog can be harvested for one raw dart frog meat. The meat can be cooked, smoked, or dried and--technically--eaten. However, it is highly inadvisable to eat dart frog meat in any form; doing so will result in twenty stacks of food poisoning and will almost certainly result in death if not treated quickly.

Trivia[]
Previous to the Animal Husbandry update V.2.3.0, the poison dart frog was the only animal that could be picked up alive. This was changed during the update when three more animals, the capybara, peccary and tapir could also be caught alive and picked up the player. You can also tie-up and pick-up armadillos.
When picked up alive by the player, the poison dart frog can be removed from the backpack and place back on the ground. Where it will then start to jump around and continue on its daily routine.
Real life: In the wild these frogs can be lethal only if eaten or licked. When kept in captivity the dart frog lose their toxicity due to the lack alkaloid-rich foods.
